Jack Kelly has been a professional writer for more
than twenty years. He has published five novels and
numerous works of nonfiction. His writing has
appeared in many national publications, including
American Heritage, The Wall Street Journal, The

Protection was made into a feature film

Critics have acclaimed Kelly’s strong and concise
prose style. The
Chicago Tribune said of his novel
Mobtown, "you should rip right through Kelly's
evocative, energetic story, pausing only to read
particularly juicy passages out loud." The
Baltimore
Sun
praised his wide-ranging history, Gunpowder:
Alchemy, Bombards & Pyrotechnics
as “evocative,
brilliantly succinct and excruciatingly powerful.”
CNN.com. said, “His ability to recreate the lifetime of
a technology which reshaped the world (and to
present it in a manner which will not overwhelm
readers) displays his talent for making even the
driest of powders ignite in the imagination.”
