What is CALEA and what are the requirements for broadband providers

CALEA (the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act) passed in 1994 was originally meant to allow for surveillance of phone conversations on newer digital switches, but was expanded in 2005 to allow law enforcement agencies access to surveil all Internet and VoIP traffic. In this broadcast we discuss what the CALEA requirements are for Communications Service Providers, the different options for compliance, and the penalties for non-compliance.
